Building a Safer Classroom for Badjao Learners

Enrollment at Badjao Elementary School in Sulu has grown from 322 to 391 learners for School Year 2026–2027, creating an urgent need to reopen a classroom that was unused last year. The school is currently repairing the Grade 1-B classroom, including its damaged flooring and half of the hollow-block wall. Work is underway, though additional plywood and construction materials are still needed to complete the job and provide students with a safe, functional learning environment.

For many children from the Badjao community, this school offers their first opportunity to receive a formal education. Parent volunteers have already contributed their time and labor by building tables and chairs, while Asia America Initiative has supported the school with funding for furniture, classroom materials, and essential supplies. By helping complete these repairs, AAI can ensure that the school’s growing number of learners has secure classrooms where they can study, participate, and build a stronger future.
